Christmas by Candlelight

Get into the merriment of the season with a traditional Pioneer Christmas, and learn about the origins of Christmas traditions we celebrate today. Delight in the sights, sounds and smells of the holiday season with us!

Featuring:

  • Tour the village by horse-drawn wagon ride
  • Visit with Father and Mother Christmas
  • Listen to traditional hymns on the pump organ and participate in a carol sing in the Glen Alda Church
  • Enjoy ham and savoury on a bun served in PCAHB ($)
  • Listen to stories, traditional shanties, and Christmas songs performed by Glen Cardus and Fiddling Jay
  • Learn about traditional Christmas treats in the Milburn House and try some Turkish delight
  • Discover the history of the Christmas tree and stocking
  • See chestnuts roasting on an open fire
  • Sample some sugar plums as you listen the story of the nutcracker and how he defeated the Mouse King
  • Participate in a traditional holiday toast at the Fitzpatrick house
  • Try your hand at some reindeer games including wooden tandem skis, snowshoes and sled races
  • Learn the history of the toy maker in the Carpenter Shop
  • Learn the history behind the classic Christmas story T'was the Night Before Christmas
  • View a wide selection of Christmas shopping options from the 1900s at the General Store
  • Witness a holiday census and Christmas party games at the Town Hall
  • Make a Christmas craft
  • Participate in a traditional Hogmany celebration at the Ayotte Cabin
  • Enjoy performances by the Peterborough Scottish Country Dancers on Saturday and performances by the Hollow Woods Recorder Consort on Sunday
  • Listen to carols sung by the roving carollers
  • Enjoy hot chocolate, cookies and treats for sale ($)
  • Capture a family keepsake at the photo booth
  • Enjoy freshly-popped kettle corn by Ben's Kettle Corn ($)
  • Learn about the history of the yule log
  • Christmas Raffle ($)
  • Witness a live Nativity performed by members of the Keene United Church at 7 pm- Sunday only

 Admission: Adults- $15, Students & Seniors (60+) – $10, Youths 5 to 14 Years of Age – $7, Children Under 5 Years of Age – Free, Family Pass (includes 2 Adults and up to 4 Youths) – $40

Please note: Events run rain or shine. Special activities are subject to change due to weather, materials, volunteer availability and unforeseen circumstances. In the event of extreme circumstances which require cancellation, a notice will be posted on our social media pages. On-site parking is available on a first come first served basis.
